The People

The people of Afghanistan were the best part of my year in that country.  I met so many beautifully gentle, peaceful, helpful Afghans and they treated me so very well.   Certainly, as everywhere, there are others --the Taliban and their ilk-- but they are a small minority.  To Fawad, Samir, Kamran, Emal, Rabia, the farmer in Baghlan province who shared his afternoon and his watermelon with Eric and me, and hundreds or maybe thousands of others, I say Tashakor (thank you).  I wish you and your families well and hope you can remain safe and avoid the coming storm. Especially for all the children, I wish I could have done more.
