Ghana

Picture

I first came to Ghana in 1981 as a consultant on a private-sector poultry project and have since returned several times.  One of the wealthier countries in Africa, it was the first of Great Britain's former colonies to achieve independence.  I have been able to travel extensively, driving from Accra to the northern border with Burkino Faso in 2005.  My favorite place is Lake Bosumtwi, a deep, natural lake created by a meteor impact.   A gentle, if long, walking path around the lake passes through many small fishing and farming villages and provides a great opportunity to experience rural Ghana and interact with this country's friendly people.
